All Work And No Play...
A myth exists in our society that you work hard and play hard. At first, we can convince ourselves that we deserve to play with the toys we have worked hard to get. But in reality, it is a never-ending cycle of more work for more toys. How is God honored in that? When can that person, stuck in that cycle, ever find true rest or develop a close relationship with others, including God? Proverbs 23:4-5 warn us against the toiling to get rich. Toil is a word not used very much anymore, but it means working beyond the point of exhaustion. There are seasons in life when it is time to toil, but God does not expect us to toil for selfish gain or at the price of forgetting Him. Rest this weekend.
