What is Normal?

What is normal to you? Chances are you determined what was normal for you from your environment, your family and friends, trends in social media, and what is on television. From these sources, normal becomes defined and whether we know it or not, we place a measuring stick to compare ourselves to these unrealistic standards. When we fail to measure up we feel judged by others even while we judge ourselves. Christian blogger Ann Voskamp wrote, “Comparison is a thug that robs your joy.” The apostle Paul wrote, “We do not dare to classify ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves and compare themselves…they are not wise” (2 Corinthians 10:12). Let’s refrain from using the world’s measuring stick to determine our worth and instead live up to God’s expectations for us.
